On this #TransDayOfVisibility, I’m thinking of Leelah Alcorn and Blake Brockington. Two trans teens who died by suicide just six years ago. Both had families that were unsupportive of their identities. They dreamed of a better world for other trans youth though. source
I'm not one to criticize "hollywood" because 1. I don't like to generalize and 2. because this town has given me more opportunities and lifelong friendships than I ever thought possible- BUT, today I want to talk about how Hollywood is hypocritically transphobic. 1/
We thankfully now have some (albeit, minimal) trans representation on screen, but- as with all minority groups- if the only stories we're telling are about how they are marginalized, then we continue to otherize and separate. These stories are important, sure... 2/
but also important are just stories about and including trans people in every day situations. But even more crucial? If you're tweeting and posting supportive things like "Trans women are women" why are you not casting this way? Directors, EP's, Producers- it starts with you. 3/
Tell your casting directors that when you're looking for an actor to play a role of "woman" or "man", that it is inclusive of trans people. Casting directors, make sure agents submitting their clients know that trans women ARE women, and trans men ARE men. 4/
They live their lives as men and women every day in the real world and we need to see this represented and normalized on tv and movies. The things we see in media affect culture, society, and progress. It's our responsibility as creators to use this power wisely and for good. 5/
If you're not doing something when you have the power to do so, your words of support are empty. But the good news is you can always change and grow and learn. And start doing something about it. Right now. #TransDayOfVisibility 6/6 source

While communities around the world may use different terms, gender variance has long existed and thrived.
Today we're excited to share a new video with @lilyvetch about the South Asian Hijra community - historically categorised as a third gender. source

Inspite of the world right now I'm so glad I'm out and visible. Transitioning is the best decision I ever made. 1 yr on HRT and working on my FFS, but I could use help. Please share or donate if you can.
