How many legs do you count? Notice the incredible detail on this giant Lamasu featured at the British Museum. The Lamasu were considered hybrid beings, mythological creatures from ancient Mesopotamia who were supposed to be powerful protectors & guardians. This one possesses the body of a bull, wings of an eagle & a humanoid head. Guesstimated to date from circa 850 BC, it flanked the entrance to the royal palace of King Ashurnasirpal || at Nimrud. Or... might it have been from an earlier epoch? Were the ancients depicting a strange hybrid entity from deep prehistory? #history #museum #fyp
