"Yesterday, about 200 Chinese students and staff in the United States marched from the plaza near the United Nations to the Chinese Consulate General in New York, carrying slogans such as "Wei Jingsheng is not guilty", "Li Peng step down", "Deng Xiaoping retire and go home to care of your grandchildren" and "End the Chinese Communist dictatorship". They attempted to deliver a petition letter to the consulate staff but were refused."

Wang Dan hosted a "Democracy Salon" at the Triangle of Peking University, calling for class walkouts to continue. Over a thousand students attended. Wang said that some journalists were going to submit a petition to the Chinese Journalists' Association in the afternoon of May 9th, and they hoped to get the students' support .
